Dedicated to the reality of self defence, I find it impressive that both Peter and Geoff have within their organisation some outstanding martial artists. I am pleased to be associated with both Geoff Thompson and Peter Consterdine and the British Combat Association.
I have been training in the martial arts since 1973. Starting in karate, in September 1980 I received my kyokushinkai shodan. Like many of us ‘old boys’, I also dabbled with boxing, judo, Ju jitsu,, kung fu and anything else that was around during the 70s and 80s. I am a qualified Wu style Tai Chi teacher and worked as a bouncer, or as I now should say, a doorman from 1980 to 2005/6.
I wrote with Steve Rowe (Shikon) a regular article for Marital Arts Illustrated called ‘Samurai on the Door’ (No, the name wasn’t my idea LOL). I have recently ( 6 months ago I think) written a number of articles for MAI called ‘Survive your next street encounter with Dennis Jones’, these articles have been more about avoiding trouble than actual fighting techniques.
At 52 I now prefer to find common ground between myself and other people. The world is full of conflict and I would rather spend my time avoiding it than contributing to it. As martial artists we all have something worth while, which we can share with others-I bring to the British Combat Association my little piece.
